Our History
Advantage Industrial Automation was founded in 1989 to fill a void in the market place. Advantage provides automation solutions to Industrial Users, OEMs and System Integrators that help to increase productivity and quality, reduce downtime, save energy or provide a safer work place. Advantage does this by adding value to the leading products in this field. Advantage has grown consistently over the years by developing long-term relationships with targeted customers based on mutual success.
1989 – Advantage Industrial Automation Founded
2001 – Expanded to cover Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina
2007 – Louisville Kentucky office opened
2015 – Acquired by Graybar
2016 – Expanded to Florida
2024 – Advantage Celebrates its 35-year Anniversary
Advantage Industrial Automation Today
On April 1, 2015 Advantage Industrial Automation became a subsidiary of Graybar. Graybar is a leading distributor of electrical, communications and data networking products, and a provider of supply chain management and logistics services, based in St. Louis, Mo.
Advantage and Graybar have a shared focus on the industrial market and a commitment to serving customers for the long term. Our depth of experience in automation and control solutions, combined with Graybar’s extensive product offer, logistics infrastructure and supply chain capabilities, provides you with unmatched personal service, backed by the strength of a large, well-respected company.
As a subsidiary of Graybar, Advantage will continue to provide you with the same products, solutions and great service you already know and trust.

Advantage Industrial Automation has been serving customers in the Southeast United States for the last 35 years providing automation solutions for Industrial Users and OEMs. We provide the knowledge, solutions and vision to augment any portion of our customer’s automation challenge. We have three key elements to achieve this: experience, solutions and the people.
Experience
Advantage has over 200 man years of automation solutions experience for applying the latest in technology from hardware PLC, Servos, HMI and control solutions to integrating Business Intelligence software to ERP systems. We continually train our employees with real world experience through helping our customers commission proven cutting edge technologies. Our experience is wide ranging in many disciplines ranging from Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear, Industrial, and Computer Engineering to MBAs. We understand the need to know the latest technologies and understand our customer’s business requirements for justification of implementing their automation projects.
Solutions
We have partnered with world leading suppliers of the needed automation hardware and software that we test and use to facilitate customer desires. We have solutions ranging from the simplest needs for control components in an enclosure to designing a multi-vendor automation solution that integrates to one’s ERP system. We deliver these solutions to our customers by having very tight relationships with our customers to understand their business. We engage in an interview process with our customers to understand their automation challenges and then reach into our vendor relationships to present solutions to their fully understood challenges. We partner with the leading manufacturers in plant automation and continue to re-align our relationships to reflect our customer’s needs.
People
We have a dedicated staff that has shown through the years how to earn a loyal customer through dedication, perseverance and carefully listening to client desires. We continually adjust our staff to align with technological advancements so that our customers are assured access to expertise in the evolution of the Industrial Automation Technology field.
